We have the power to issue penalty notices to energy companies for breaches of the regulatory framework, which includes the Energy Retail Code, the Electricity Distribution Code and relevant legislation. Our penalty notices describe how the company breached their obligations and why we decided a penalty was appropriate.

If an energy company does not pay the penalty by the deadline, we can begin proceedings in the Supreme Court of Victoria.
