QEnergy penalty notices 2022 (incorrect charging)
QEnergy Ltd (QEnergy) has paid penalties totalling over $180,000 after we issued five penalty notices in October 2022. We issued the penalties to QEnergy for allegedly charging Victorian Default Offer customers incorrect rates. The penalty notices were paid on 17 January 2023.
The Victorian Default Offer prices are set by the commission and retailers are required to charge default offer customers in line with the commission’s price determination. QEnergy’s alleged failure to charge their Victorian Default Offer customers the correct rates resulted in more than 60 customers being overcharged.
Every Victorian energy consumer has the right to be billed appropriately and all energy retailers must have systems and processes in place to ensure their billing practices comply with Victoria’s energy rules.
The commission undertook this investigation alongside an investigation into Victorian energy retailer Mojo Power East Pty Ltd who allegedly engaged in the same conduct, and who were also issued five penalty notices in October 2022.
