Overview
We set the maximum surcharge that applies when a taxi passenger pays for a fare using non-cash payment options, including credit, debit and charge cards.
We review the surcharge every two years, following completion of the most recent determination.
Current maximum surcharge
The current determination sets out the maximum taxi non-cash payment surcharge.
The current maximum surcharge is:
- four per cent for most non-cash payment methods
- six per cent for Cabcharge payment instruments.
2024 review of maximum unbooked fares and non-cash payment surcharge
On 13 June 2024, we released a draft decision on our review of the current maximum unbooked taxi fares and non-cash payment surcharge. Submissions will close on 12 July 2024. Our final decision is scheduled to be released in early September 2024.
2022 review of the maximum surcharge
In September 2022, we released our final decision and determination on the maximum non-cash payment surcharge to apply from 15 September 2022.
Our final decision was to keep the maximum non-cash payment surcharge for taxi services in Victoria unchanged.
