New warranty requirements for water heating and space heating and cooling activities commences today - 31 March 2025
31 March 2025
From 31 March 2025, all relevant water heating and space heating and cooling products installed under the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program must be covered by a warranty against defects for a period of at least five years from the date of installation, purchase or supply (as applicable).
The warranty requirements apply to the following products:
- Water heating products: All products installed under activities 1 and 3.
- Space heating and cooling products: All products with a standard cooling capacity of less than or equal to 39kW installed in residential premises (activity 6).
- Commercial and industrial heat pump water heating product(s): All products with an insulated storage volume not exceeding 700 litres installed under activity 44
For more information on this change, refer to the program update released on 18 February 2025.
Updated VEU Register of Products
We have updated the VEU Register of Products to remove products that were not able to be assessed as complying with the new warranty requirements. These products are no longer able to be installed under the VEU program from 31 March 2025.
Accredited person obligations to meet warranty requirements
From 31 March 2025, accredited persons must ensure that:
- Victorian energy efficiency certificate (VEEC) assignment forms include the required product warranty installer declaration, as outlined in the relevant activity’s assignment form.
- Consumers are provided with a copy of the warranty (covering a minimum period of 5 years) for any relevant product(s) installed.
VEEC assignment forms can be accessed via the links in the table below. Please note that a minor correction has been made to the warranty declaration by the installer in the VEEC assignment form for the space heating and cooling activity (activity 6 - residential).
