Victorians continue to save through energy efficiency

Thousands of Victorian households and small businesses benefitted from the installation of more than four million energy efficient LED lights through the Victorian Energy Upgrades program in 2019.
The program’s latest performance report, released today, shows that in its 11 years, it has saved over 57 million tonnes in greenhouse gases and provided energy cost savings for many Victorians.
The Essential Services Commission’s program director Jeff Cefai says the ongoing benefits of Victorian Energy Upgrades will continue to be seen.
“Over 57 million tonnes of greenhouse gases have been saved over the last decade through the program – that’s the equivalent of all 4.8 million cars in Victoria not emitting greenhouse gas for four years.
“These savings are also being seen in households and small businesses.
“With the installation of more efficient LED lights, households and businesses could see an annual saving in energy costs by up to $110 and $3,700 respectively,” he said.[1]
The report shows the program continued to grow in 2019, with six new installers and companies entering the market 1,149 energy saving products approved.
Mr Cefai says 200 companies are now involved in the scheme, carrying out thousands of energy upgrades of lighting, heating and water systems every year.
“The number of approved energy-saving products has also increased meaning more Victorians can access energy savings in more ways,” he said.
