Regulator opens consultation on three energy licence applications
13 March 2024
The Essential Services Commission is currently reviewing three licence applications from the following energy retailers:
Flo Energy Australia Pty Ltd
Tesla Energy Ventures Australia Pty Ltd
CEP Energy Retail Pty Ltd
In Victoria, any person who wants to sell electricity or gas by retail is required to hold a licence granted by the Essential Services Commission or be exempt from this requirement.
The Essential Services Commission is responsible for deciding whether to grant or refuse a licence application. In deciding whether to grant or refuse a licence application, the commission must have regard to its objectives under the Essential Services Commission Act 2001 and the Electricity Industry Act 2000. This includes promoting the long-term interests of Victorian consumers regarding the price, quality and reliability of essential services.
The commission is now seeking public input on these applications through Engage Victoria.
