After seven years as Chief Executive Officer, Dr John Hamill will be leaving the Essential Services Commission. He will be finishing on 9 June.
Commission chairperson Kate Symons said Dr Hamill has led the management of the organisation with integrity and commitment to deliver regulatory outcomes across the state’s energy, water, transport and local government sectors that protect and serve Victorian consumers.
“On behalf of my fellow commissioners, we are grateful to John for his support, leadership and dedication over the years.
“John is a talented and highly respected public sector leader. He has made an immense and long-lasting contribution to the great working culture we have at the commission. And he has been instrumental in helping the commission to achieve positive changes for Victorians through our work program and regulatory decisions.
“We look forward to celebrating John’s achievements and contribution to the commission with staff and stakeholders in the coming weeks, and we wish him every success for the future,” Commissioner Symons said.
The commission will commence an executive search process for the CEO position immediately.
The commission has appointed Sarah Sheppard as acting CEO from 10 June 2023 until such time as a permanent CEO is appointed. Sarah has held the role of Executive Director, Energy at the commission since April 2021.
